FAQ
Guard Series Product Line Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is it necessary to buy a GPS in addition to the system if I do not already have one?
A. No, you do not need to buy a GPS. The system comes completely integrated with a GPS right on the board.

Q. I already have a GPS on board, why would I want to have another one with this system?
A. Your onboard system is very visible and would always have to be turned on. If someone was tampering with your boat and they wanted to steal it, they could simply disconnect the GPS unit and we would then no longer have any way of tracking your vessel. With our system, there are no visibly evident signs onboard your vessel that there is a GPS other than the typical one in the dash, present. Thus your vessel can be continually tracked via the internal GPS by either you or the authorities. As a direct result, the thief who thought he/she was home free by disconnecting the onboard GPS unit would be apprehended as vessel tracking would still be possible via the Abucco system.

Q. Do I need to pay a set up fee or activation fee to get started?
A. No, the system is designed such that you do not require any set up or start up fees.

Q. Do I need to pay a monthly monitoring fee?
A. No, the system was designed such that you can simply monitor your vessel yourself. It is 100% functional without signing up with a monitoring company. You will receive immediate notification of any events occurring on your vessel.

Q. Do I need to pay a monthly user fee?
A. Yes, the system uses the common celluar network for communications. We hava established special rates with the cellular service providers starting at $15 CAD per month.

Q. Who will be alerted in case of an intrusion, fire or some other problem?
A. There are 5 cell phone numbers and 5 email addresses that you can set up yourself. Typically yourself, close by neighbor, friends etc.

Q. How do I setup my device?
A. You can setup your device with our "Web Monitoring and Configuration Utility". Simply reqister your new product on our website (www.mcrsystems.net) after which you will be able to use the 6 step on-line wizard to setup and customize your device. This is also where you can anytime from anywhere monitor and control your device.

Q. Do all your models come complete with all the peripheral devices such as motion detectors, smoke detectors, cameras, sirens, etc?
A. No, there is a wide variety of choices of manufacturers and technologies available on a worldwide basis. Our system was designed to be third party independent and as such, we would like you the customer to be comfortable in the selection of your peripheral devices. Of course, if required, we would be happy to recommend devices and/or provide these devices for you.

Q. Do I have to have a professional install this system or can I do it myself?
A. While everyone has a different level of comfort when it comes to electronics, our system was designed with simplicity of installation in mind. The Guard Series comes complete with step by step instructions for proper installation and implementation of your security monitoring and control system. Most people would feel comfortable doing the installation themselves.

Q. If I decided to have the system installed by a professional, what kind of cost would I typically be looking at?
A. Typically $300 to $500 depending on the size and complexity of your individual security needs.

Q. If I lose main power, will it interrupt the security coverage?
A. No, your coverage will remain continuous as the system will automatically switch over to battery back up and send you an alarm message that you have "Lost Main Power". It will also send you a "Power Restored" message when the power comes back.
